The fourteenth-generation Ford F-150 launched for the 2021 model year, carrying over the aluminum-alloy body on a fully boxed high-strength steel frame used since 2015 while adding a hybrid powertrain to the half-ton line for the first time. At launch the 2021 F-150 offered five gas powertrains, the 3.3L Ti-VCT V6, the 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6s, the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8, and the new 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid that pairs the 3.5 EcoBoost with an electric motor and a 1.5 kWh battery, all using a 10-speed automatic. The PowerBoost also enabled the Pro Power Onboard generator, with a 7.2 kW system that turns the truck into a mobile power source. The 3.0L Power Stroke diesel was carried over only briefly and was discontinued after the 2021 model year. The Raptor continued with the high-output 3.5 EcoBoost, and a Raptor R with a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 arrived for 2023. A mid-cycle refresh for 2024 dropped the base 3.3 V6, made the 2.7 EcoBoost the base engine, and added the Pro Access swing-gate tailgate. The all-electric F-150 Lightning is a separate model and is not part of this gas and hybrid generation.

Engines and drivetrain
The fourteenth-generation Ford F-150 launched for 2021 with five gas and hybrid powertrains, all paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and offered in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The base 2021 engine was the 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 rated at 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Above it sat the 2.7L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft, the 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 at 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft, and the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 at 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. The 3.0L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V6, introduced on the prior generation for 2018, was carried into the 2021 F-150 and then discontinued after the 2021 model year. The defining addition was the 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid, described below.
For the 2024 model year the Ford F-150 dropped the 3.3L V6 and made the 2.7L EcoBoost the base engine, leaving the 2.7 EcoBoost, 5.0 V8, 3.5 EcoBoost, and 3.5 PowerBoost hybrid in the standard lineup alongside the Raptor and Raptor R engines. The 2025 and 2026 Ford F-150 continue that lineup.
The 3.5 PowerBoost full hybrid
The 3.5L PowerBoost is a full hybrid that pairs the 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 with a 35 kW electric motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic transmission and a 1.5 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. In the 2021 Ford F-150 it is rated at 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, the highest output of any 2021 F-150 engine, and Ford rated the PowerBoost at up to 12,700 pounds of maximum towing. The PowerBoost was the first electrified powertrain offered on the gas F-150 and remains available on the 2026 Ford F-150. It is distinct from the all-electric F-150 Lightning, which is a separate model and not a member of this generation.
Pro Power Onboard
Pro Power Onboard is an onboard generator system introduced on the 2021 Ford F-150 that sends power from the engine or hybrid battery to 120-volt outlets in the bed and cab. On gas engines other than the base 3.3 V6, Ford offered a 2.0 kW system. The 3.5 PowerBoost hybrid came standard with a 2.4 kW system and offered an optional 7.2 kW system that adds a 240-volt outlet, enough to run job-site tools or power a home through select equipment. The 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard is exclusive to the PowerBoost hybrid F-150.
Raptor and Raptor R
The Ford F-150 Raptor continued in the fourteenth generation with the high-output 3.5L EcoBoost V6 rated at 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, a five-link coil-sprung rear suspension, and an available 37-inch tire package. For the 2023 model year Ford added the Raptor R, the first V8-powered factory F-150 Raptor, using a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 derived from the Mustang Shelby GT500 and rated at 700 hp for 2023 and 720 hp for 2024 and later, with 640 lb-ft of torque. Both the Raptor and Raptor R use the 10-speed automatic and continue on the 2026 Ford F-150.
What changed in the 2024 refresh
The 2024 Ford F-150 received a mid-cycle refresh. The base 3.3L V6 was discontinued and the 2.7L EcoBoost became the base engine. The truck got revised front-end styling and a new Pro Access tailgate, a swing-gate design that opens to the side and brings a buyer up to 19 inches closer to the bed. Inside, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch center touchscreen running SYNC 4 became standard across the lineup. These updates carry through the 2025 and 2026 Ford F-150.
What to know when buying
When shopping a fourteenth-generation Ford F-150, the model year sets the engine menu: 2021 through 2023 trucks can have the base 3.3 V6, while 2024 and later trucks start with the 2.7 EcoBoost. Only 2021 F-150s could be ordered with the 3.0 Power Stroke diesel, which is uncommon and was dropped afterward. A PowerBoost hybrid is identifiable by its hybrid badging and is the only F-150 with the 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard generator. A factory V8 Raptor is a Raptor R and exists only from 2023 on; earlier fourteenth-generation Raptors use the high-output 3.5 EcoBoost V6. Buyers cross-shopping the F-150 Lightning should note it is a separate all-electric model, not a hybrid trim of this generation.
