The story

This car is a 1968 Ford Torino GT Convertible that I purchased in 1978. It was my very first car. I saved the money from my summer job to purchase a car and was able to save up $1500. Late one Friday night, my dad stayed up late waiting for me to come home so he could tell me about this car a friend of his called "a real creampuff". Of course I was immediately interested in it because it was a convertible. I had no idea it was such a rare care. (Only 5310 were made that year). By the next day (Saturday at noon), I became the second owner of the car. I did what every 17 year old did then, fixed it up my own way and changed the color, the carpeting, the radio (had to cut the dash to fit the 8-track in) etc. In 1997, I was lucky enough to locate the same car. It still had my initials on the door and the 8- track I put in on my 17th birthday. It was in really bad shape with rotting floors and frame rails. The engine had been changed (but the original was still available, which I purchased too). Here it is 2010 and I'm a little bit wiser now. I'm in the middle of a complete rotisserie restoration of the same car. I have the unique opportunity to return the vehicle to its original glory. It will look as it did the day it rolled off the factory floor in 1968, complete with the original drivetrain. It has always had a special place in my heart. I remember dating in it and driving it to school. It has more meaning now because my father passed away last year. I chose to return my Torino Convertible GT to the original condition and make it look like it did on the Saturday morning my father and I drove her away from the little old lady and first owner over 32 years ago. — gt68drvr
